Salam All and Salam Sejahtera,

It's 2016! and Medela came-up with more than a few changes ever for Medela Freestyle double breastpump.

Some are the changes are great, some leave me wondering. Check-this-out.....

"What say you?"

The biggest changes are. Medela no longer provided Handsfree kits in the set, instead they give FREE (**for limited time) the Medela 'Easy Expression Bustier' which serves same the function as handsfree kits.

The brighter side? ~~having the hands free bustier/bra works for MOST mother, as its easy to put on your body, and there's holes to attach the flanges/breastshield. The plus point is that it can be used with ANY type of breast pumps, single or double, EVEN if its not Medela pumps.

The Handsfree kits straps are attached to the Nursing bra.

The minus side? ~~well, I am handsfree kit's lover. I'm so used to it. ^_^ and I am able to use it with any of nursing bra I have. And I can do single or double using this. Okay, lets just remember the good side of it ya?!

Unlike, handsfree kits that only able to hold 'Medela Sparepart kits for Freestyle and Swing-Maxi', the bustier holds most breastpump easily.

Medela Easy Expression Bustier/Bra

The convinient of use.

Another big changes is the outer casing of the motor unit.

The new motor has a ' back cover's lock'. See where my thumb? By pushing the rubber only you will be ableto open the cover.

Remember those day when your back cover was opened unexpectedly? Even while not in use, and your battery dislocated, causing you panic attack of why the battery keep blinking? Yeah.... this has reduced that 'panic moment'

There's ruuber closure on the power port.

The back-cover are tighter, and the power port are closed, which we see as a way to reduce the possibilities of your pump being ruined if you accidently knocked/spill milk or water on your pump.

And also, the 'power adaptor' a.k.a the charger, also has new type of wire/cord. This one did look stronger and thicker than the old version. Sure we hope this will last longer than ever. Wallahuaklam..

The cord/wire on Medela 12V power adaptor/charger. This are also sold separately for RM199/each.

This parts is included as the breastpump's part, and is needed in order to function the Medela Freestyle. Its easy to take care of...because comparing to other Medela's model and other brand the big membrane did help in the process (well...the least, you cannot loose them from sights..LOL) (^_^)

~~Why is the need of more icepack?~~ *read on**

**Icebrick or Chiller can stays chill as long as 8-12 hours, as long as it's been freeze long enough. The longer an icebrick/icepack/chiller stays in freezer. The longer they stays solid and cool in cooler bag. And its also depends on your surrounding and temperature in your office. If you can have more than one, it is better because you can freeze them long enough as you are able to rotate the use daily. Get what I mean? ;D

My Raha was borne on 2nd Dec 2011. Now 5 months ;).. and enjoying mother's milk with her sister, my little Nur.

It's just that once I am back from maternity leave, I was presented with tonnes of workloads at the office. It is funny how some staff at your workplace think that you already are gifted and should be thankful with enough 'rest' for 2 months maternity leave with another 4 kids on tow..LOL. :P

And, I decided that will be 'Aja's first priority' and second is this---the services and warranty claims : (and of course to those continues ordering eventhough the weblog is not updated! Thanks so much <3)

Pump yang dihantar utk services and repair. Some after years of using. This is the importance to have an easy access to services and consultation EVEN after the warranty period is already over. **HINT: See the name and year they bought the pump ...

All working fine, finally.. ;)

I've been getting a lot of 'notice' from our --2008, 2009, 2010--- user to service their breastpump. Even from 2011. Alhamdulillah, manage to send theirs for services. And all worked fine after repair and service. Thank god, so one need to buy new breastpump even some after using for 2 kids. Some need spareparts change and some need accesories (breastshields, sparekits, tubings etc), and some comes back just for services before waiting for new bundle of joy. Even after years of using, you can always comeback to us for services as long as the breastpumps are purchased FROM our mybreastpumpshop.com.

(HINT: See names on first picture.. and year they bought their breastpumps :D OR you can see the 'Freestyle' word on each pump. The BLUE words is for medela Freestyle breastpumps from 2008 and early 2009 as we've been selling since July 2008 ..)

Sebenarnya Aja nak tulis Selamat Hari Raya, tp errr.... raya is another 4 days away so selamat 'menyambut' ketibaan Hari Raya ya.. Raya..sila lah dtg lambat sikit, macam sayang betul nak ditinggalkan Ramadhan Al-Mubarak ini .. At this moment, I am going through puasa while pregnant again (^.^) and partially breastfeeding little Nur. As this is 5th time pregnancy during Ramadan and I really hope I'll make it to day 30. Aminn.. Nur hated the taste of my breastmilk during my 1st trimester, but continue to breastfeed at night nowadays-- for comfort I guess.

Medela Therashells vs. Medela Milk Collection Shells

Just wanna inform that my stock for Medela Therashells and Medela TenderCare Lanolin has been restocked back. ;)

I got this question from a very dear friend, Asmah Yunos. She is a breastfeedingmom and pumps daily for her first baby and now waiting for her new bundle of joy..*hugs*. She asked for Medela Milk Collection Shell and eventually saw Medela Therashells and wasn’t sure which one to choose, and whether to choose one piece or a pair?

Ok, here… let see the picture back and go back to the function of both shells

Medela Milk Collection Shell

(Price : RM69/pair, RM35/pc. ~~Retails : RM89~~ )

Milk collection shell functioned to collect milk, especially when for heavy milk flow that prone for leakage during let down, this is a very secure solution. It collects milks and in the same time prevents leakage. And it can also avoid you from pressing on your breast/nipple on the other side with towel while breastfeeding your baby on the other side.

In the other hand, it can also helps or can be use for sore nipple, just that it doesn’t have the air holes, but it wasn’t a big problem actually. Medela Milk Collection Shell has this soft silicone backs for a snug, comfortable fit, and this can be open for easy emptying through convenient spout plus it was contoured for less visibility through clothing and 100% Bisphenol-A free.

The different is also in size and therashells has these holes for air (so that nipples are easily aired without exposing or rubbing against you bras)

Medela Therashells

(Price: RM69/pair, RM35/side (one side has 'one shell/cover' and 2 ring--placed around nips)

Medela Therashells on the other hand, function as 2 in 1 solutions. For expecting mommies, the shells can be used to helps on inverted nipple especially first time mother during pregnancy period (use with small hole ring) and for use on sore nipple to help curing process fasters (use with large hole so that the ring didn’t touch the areola)

Is it possible to use the THERASHELLS as milk collectors?

I would say ‘No’ and ‘Yes’. 'NO', if you have heavy flow and move a lot, as the milk will spill thru the holes. And the ring is very small to sustain the milk. ‘Yes’ if by accident some of the milk leaks and they are ‘there’ in the shell. The milk can be collected, and safely save them. And you must also wash the shells prior to use or after use.

Do I need 1 piece or 1 pair of shells?

I always advice breastfeeding mothers to buy only what they need. If your problem with sore nipple, cracked nipple, any problem with nipple is not that severe, one piece of Therashell is enough to use especially while at home, coz we breastfeed baby on the other side. But if you need to use the shell at office I would suggest buy a pair (so they didn’t looked awkward).

For milk collection shells, one piece or a pair is also ok, but I would suggest 1 piece for use during breastfeeding, or if you are user of single pump.. you can use one for the other side

Medela Tendercare Lanolin : A nipple cream that works...wonders :D

I remembered a year ago at this day.. I was sitting in a clinic and practically begging for antibiotics from the doctor. My little angel baby Nur had thrush (see link) and its affected me badly. My nipple was practically slitted open at the bottom of nipple. Unlike cracked nipple which cracked on tip of nipple, this one almost slit open my nipple and sooo painful like someone slit you nipple with knife. (Okay, i might sound bragging but its really painfully..huwaaa)..

The moment the doctor said he cant give us antibiotics coz Nur is barely 10 days, I am crying inside. I'm bumped.

How do I know baby Nur had thrush back then?

How will I know if my baby has thrush?

If your baby has thrush, white patches that look like milk curds will appear in his mouth. If you rub these gently with a clean finger, you'll find the base is raw and may bleed. You may find that your baby is unsettled, or pulls away from your breast while feeding, because his mouth is sore.

Thrush can pass through your baby's digestive system to his bottom and cause nappy rash. The rash is often sore with red spots, and may take a while to heal. Our article on thrush in babies has more information. HERE

How is thrush treated?

Thrush is one condition that you are better off not treating on your own. If you suspect you and your baby have it, see your doctor. You and your baby will both need to be treated at the same time, even if only one of you is showing symptoms.

Your doctor will probably prescribe an antifungal medication, usually micozanole or nystatin, to put on the infection. Micozanole is thought to be more effective than nystatin (Jones and Sachs 2009).

Your nipples and your baby's mouth, and possibly bottom, will need to be treated at the same time. Thrush can take up to a few weeks to cure completely, although the pain should ease after a few days. If it does not, go back to your doctor for more help.

What? weeks?

Aja called Hazarina , "Laling, did I missed this thrush thingy in Lactational course? I dun recalled going to toilet during the lecture", "hmm..nope, it was just mentioned but wasnt elaborated"..Hazarina was also clueless. I didnt have this problem while breastfeeding my 1st doter, Dina. Even during Azalea and Rayyan. And this is the time when history become a stressful rememberance.

"Call Sue la Aja..", "Segan la Haza..".. Haha..segan nyer pasal, kena google, and that's when I found a lot of thing about thrush. And the utmost important part is if you feel the pain, then your baby feels the same. And at least you can speak it out, but what will your baby do..? cry, pull out from latching, unsettled, some might started to develope fever. (read the symptom above) *nangis okeh dlm ati*

The doctor didnt provide me with any cream as cream might choked my baby if she still didnt master the swallowing. He just advice me to wash my nips after breastfeeding and before I breastfeed again. And come back in 3-5 days. It was like someone telling you "GO HOME, BE A SURVIVOR, YOU ARE SUPERWOMAN.. YOU CAN SURVIVE"...yeah right :P

I went home, staring at the silings...wishing magic will happen. Of course la, it didnt happen..haha.. dang! Now a mother of 4, and stupid even..

I did as the doctor advice, wash my nipple. I applied nipple cream, that time I just have Medela PureLan (a very ancient cream Medela produce). It wasnt a few days after that Medela Tendercare Lanolin and Medela Therashell arrived....fashionably to this stressful mother --me-- hehehe....

0.3 oz, who need so much? this 0.3 oz (more or less 6 g) is more than enough...

Price for this Tendercare lanolin is RM35 (small size - 6g), poslaju RM6

What I did was :

1) I washed my nipple before and after breastfeeding.
2) expressed a tiny drop of breastmilk, apply on nipple and then apply this cream..

and thirdly, 3) what makes the healing process faster is by placing this small shell on the affected nipple.

Medela Therashells for inverted nipple and sore nipple. (2 in 1)

~VOILA! ~ My pain reduced in 24 hours, Alhamdulillah. Syukur... the slit part was no longer visible though the pain still there..but so much lesser.

Aja pun mcm mommies lain, sgt skeptikal whether 'a shell' will work. Will it show off when wearing it?

And so,to make good comparison I put them on my award winning fake b.r.e.a.s.t. (that b.r.e.a.s.t got 3rd prize in lactational course tau *blush*) ...hahah... on the right is milk collection shell. On the left is the therashells.
(*p/s: I got a mommy asking me how to wear the shell, okay..see the 'ring'? Place them around the nipple area/areola -small hole for inverted nipple, large hole for sore nipple (so it didnt touch the painful nip)-- and put the cover on it, then wear your bra as usual ;))

And if it wasnt good enough for me, I wouldnt have recommended it to others. But it works! Still I was scared to propose this when a friend of mine, Nina, complaint about her sore nipple due to EPing. Until she asked, "Aja, sample nipple cream Aja bg hari tuh, Nina jimat2..boleh order ke Aja?" . Alahai Nina, awat la x tanyer.. And a week after she got herself a tube..

Alhamdulillah... well, a cream that works for us wasnt totally will work for others.. but other than living in pain, and after trying other that didnt works, this might be helpful. Who knows.. kan ;). Yang penting kita ikhtiar..

And as today, 16th February is my birthday, I wanted to offer this cream of 6 g (worth RM35), you'll find in normal store the "medela Purelan" with same price, but that is different than this "medela tendercare lanolin", different formulation I must say.

Oh ya...in case anyone wondering how big is 6 g tube, its the size of our lipstick case.

Some of you may have remember previously when I wanted to do some clearance items/spareparts for medela. I also mentioned that I wanted to clear off my EBM stocks also here a.k.a throwing it away (^_^;). Well.. it didnt happen ;D... and I am so glad. I was emailed by this mother of two asking if I would sell the EBM. I was puzzled.

Coz, there's no way I would be selling them! I would definitely give them for FOC, but I didnt directly reply to her. I went home and asked my husband as I need his permission. He said 'yes' without even he had a chance to blink his eyes. Yes, so fast!. And the next week, I already have my milk-daughter, Syaza.

kalau boleh.. nak orang yg tak jauh dr Puchong lah sebab takut ebm melting. Bila melt dah tak leh freeze balik.. Nak bagi baby try dulu 2 bag. Kalau baby boleh accept ebm ni, ada dlm 40bag++ nak bagi.. Kira2 boleh last utk 2 weeks mcm tuh.

kalau ada contact hospital yg perlu ebm pun boleh jugak. tapi kena datang ambik sendiri kat rumah (Bukit Puchong 2)

I got few questions,plus enquiries, on how do I managed in Ramadhan. Since 2003 been through Ramadhan with 4 pregnancy and 4 breastfeeding moment. Not to say that I made it through without hitch. I've been through flatulence when breastfeeding with pregnancy, vomitting due to pregnancy, there was a moment I cant even drive home... or was too weak to pump on the evening of Ramadhan. All in all it becomes my utmost precious experiences. Alhamdulillah..

Aja share here my little tips on Ramadhan & breastfeeding. But I bet many has been reading a lots of same kind of tips or other kind of tips that may works for you... Basically sama mcm mommies lain, kurma is a must for me, berbuka puasa and sahur. Before I'm a mommy, Aja pun ingat 1-2 biji dah memadai (plus I'm not very fond of dates), little that I know you actually have to consume at least 5-7 dates, be it berbuka and sahur. And I found through forums, the nicest way to consume them, by blending few dates with fresh milk. But Aja tak sempat nk blend...hehe.. so what I did, with little time esp during sahur (??). I eat kurma and drink milk at the same time. Seriously, its funny feelings but at least it doesnt feel or taste tooo sweeet ;).

NASI is a must for me during pregnancy and breastfeeding in Ramadhan. Samada during berbuka atau sahur...mesti NASI. And my husband knows this, so he is the one who's going to prepare them before sahur (as I was stuck breastfeeding baby, in bed). This helps a lot. If you are not the type who eats heavily during sahur, pls try little by little.. who know you need to go through Ramadhan & breastfeeding 'again' in the future. And water is a must. Preggie mom especially, if its hard to consume plain water, consume juice or anything tasteful but you must drink...from berbuka up until you meet sahur again. Have a drink by your bedside.. and consume whenever you feels like it.

Other than that, Aja change Aja nyer pumping schedule. Basically I pump 4 times per day, during Ramadhan it will still be 4 times. If non-Ramadhan months, I will start pumping after subuh, during this month I pump at 5.20 am after sahur so I can pump and drink at the same time. I will finish pumping in 15-20 minutes, and continue to pray and basically went to breastfeed back.. and get a little rest, as I went for work a little late in fasting months. Baby also are less fussy at this moment if they are asleep and usually still sleepy, so somehow its easy. The next pumping session is 10 am, the usual 1.30 pm becomes 2.00pm as I will take a nap in the afternoon after zohor prayer. Ok...sometimes its 2.30pm..hehe.. or I pump as early as 1pm and take a nap after that. Its a must for me to take a nap or at least lie down, first.. I need to get some rest. 2nd, make me less talkative... ;P

And the last session will be at 5pm, or during driving back home. Or if I feel too thirsty, I will shift the pumping session to after berbuka/iftaar and pump either by tandem nursing or by breastfeeding my baby first then pump a little. No matter how much you get, make sure at least try to pump 4 times per day and not less than non-fasting months. Basically fasting months will not effects your milk production, if the demand is still up. If they are affecting you milk production, especially in early days of the fasting-month, do try to make sure you're not dehydrated.

Other than that, ibu mengandung dan menyusukan, ada pengecualian tertentu. InsyaAllah.. kita cuba yang terbaik dulu, dan adjust mengikut kemampuan kita ya... ;)
